Internship Opportunities at Ellechor Publishing House

Ellechor Publishing House, LLC is a growing book publishing company poised to take the world of publishing into the new millennium with style. With our founder based in Beaverton, Oregon and employees in Georgia, Florida and New Jersey, we utilize the latest technologies to connect virtually and stay on task.

We have several projects underway for launch in late 2010 and are looking for highly independent leaders to intern with our group and get significant work experience assisting our managers achieve their goals. This internship is not your cookie-cutter fetching coffee, slumming in the slush-pile internship. The right intern will have the opportunity to give valuable input, suggest and lead programs of choice, and overall do what all leaders long to do: leave their mark of excellence. The opportunity for continued employment is also open for the most valuable interns.

All interns should possess office work experience, be detail oriented, and able to work well with people and independently. They must also have their own laptop or computer, reliable Internet connectivity, and be able to function in a virtual office environment with primary team contact being via phone and email. 

The internships are unpaid, except in the case where freelance writing tasks are specifically requested. We require at least 20 hrs of dedicated time per week. Success is measured primarily on the interns’ ability to complete tasks in a timely manner, and ability to take initiative.

Applicants in Metro Atlanta, GA and Metro Portland, OR areas are preferred, but not a requirement. We will assist any interns that would like to receive course credit for their time, so please identify in your cover letter if this will fulfill a school requirement.

Desired Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing an English, Communications or Journalism related degree
  • For writers education internship, student pursuing a bachelor’s in English education or a current masters in education student is preferred
  • Will also take prior experience teaching writers workshops or distance education training experience in lieu of degree programs
  • Ability to successfully work independently and as part of a virtual team
  • Keen attention to detail and excellent organizational skills
  • Ability to function in an ambiguous environment and take initiative when staff is busy or unavailable
  • Ability to complete tasks on time or ahead of schedule
  • Some proofreading/editing experience
  • Solid interpersonal and communication skills
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint and Excel)
  • Experience managing multiple projects on deadline while providing excellent customer service.
  • Superb problem-solving skills, time-management, and organizational skills.
  • Interns in metro Atlanta/Portland areas will be required to meet with your supervisor at our virtual office site at least once a week
  • Experience in with graphics and graphics software preferred
  • Published authors are a plus (not required)


Current Openings

Editorial Internship

Editorial interns will work closely with the Acquisitions and Publications manager to:

  • Review approved manuscript submissions using our rubric scale and submit an assessment form for departmental review with a recommendation on viability
  • Suggest thoroughly researched project ideas for novels or anthologies
  • Participate as a judge in annual writing competitions
  • May be asked to complete paid freelance writing tasks as needed 

Author Training & Development Internship

Author training & development interns will work closely with our general manager refining the online writers workshop courses. They will play an integral part in:

  • Gathering and evaluating student feedback
  • Course redesign where necessary, working closely with instructors
  • Administering some course sessions
  • Organizing a face to face writers workshop session for Ellechor sponsored conventions

Marketing Internship

Marketing interns will work closely with the marketing project managers and various graphic design vendors to maintain the company’s brand in all outgoing communications. Following our marketing plan, the intern will:

  • Write press releases
  • Develop copy for marketing materials (Web copy, emails, fliers, brochures, etc.), that is well written and on target for the audience and purpose as well as adheres to brand messaging and best practices for the medium.
  • Design event fliers for workshops, contests and Ellechor sponsored conventions
  • Monitor company social media accounts and make relevant posts to topics or on company related activities
  • Update our company web page as needed. May also be asked to participate in the Website re-design.

Additional Preferred Qualifications:

  • Working knowledge of Social Media tools such as Twitter, Facebook and RSS feeds
  • Experience writing for various types of marketing material, such as Web, email, fliers, etc.
  • Assistance in correcting errors, re-writing content, re-formatting content, identifying related content, and building upon Web Design best practices.
  • Ability to write copy for Web pages
  • Ability to organize related content and present it in an organized, consistent manner.
  • Familiarity with using the Web as a business tool, current Web protocol, Web design best practices, current Web technologies, search engine optimization, etc
